


Why did you choose the United States for your education?
I would like to learn English as second language. So, I started with the ESL program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Why did you choose your school?
My aunt graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and she recommends studying in Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She said this school has a really good program.
What are the faculty, staff, and advisors like at your school?
I think they are always willing to help and try to make sure everything goes right in my class. Sometimes, I share
what happens to me each day with my professors and advisor and they give me some advice. Also, I really appreciate the Externship Program staff who gave me a great opportunity to work in Chicago during spring break 2008.
What were your initial thoughts when you arrived in the United States?
When I first arrived in the United States, I was excited to meet people from other countries.
How did you adjust to life in the United States?
Learning English and the American culture in the CESL program at SIUC was really helpful in adjusting to the American community.
Can you describe the classroom environment?
My fashion design classes are composed of ten to 15 people and we spend most of our time together in sewing labs. It is like family and they are all my friends. We are always having fun sewing and sharing stories with each other.
What do you enjoy most about student life at your school?
I enjoy making clothes for my class projects as a fashion design student. We have a fashion show every year in April, and participating in them is the most exciting thing to me.
Does your school offer international student groups and organizations? If so, please tell us about a few of your favorites.
I serve as a volunteer at the International Conversation Coffee Hour at the International Students and Scholars
Building, and it is my favorite activity. I help with the organization and set up for the weekly conversation meeting for international students. It helps me to improve my English skills while I am doing volunteer work.
What are your favorite activities on campus?
My favorite activity is volunteer work in International Conversation Coffee Hour in ISS (International Students and Scholars).
