Foothill College and De Anza Colleges

Favorite activities?
I’ve participated in many activities, including tutoring English, planning many school events like International Night (my favorite event on campus), and working with the Indonesian Club. These activities not only have helped me develop strong character, but also helped me make great friends through working with other students. I feel like I really belong here. There are so many activities and events to join and enjoy in the campus. Nevertheless, undoubtedly there are moments when I feel homesick, but these are the times when the friends I’ve made here come in handy. Since most of the international students are living away from their family, we are just like family to one another.

Favorite campus-wide event?
International Night

Five things you love about the United States or your school?

  1. Beautiful campus
  2. Great faculty members
  3. Small classes
  4. Many activities to join
  5. Good preparation for transferring

Best tip for living in the United States?
Study hard, play hard.

What is the class atmosphere like at your school?
The faculty members here are some of the best people I’ve ever met. Unlike the huge classes at four-year universities, the small classes at Foothill give students the opportunity to receive more personal attention; this is one of the many reasons why so many of them become successful students after two years at Foothill.

Why you are here (in the United States or at the school you chose)?
For me, community college was the best choice before entering a four-year university because it really prepares students academically and mentally. I chose Foothill College because it has a very good history of students transferring successfully to the best universities all over the United States.

What were your initial thoughts when you arrived (in the United States or at your school)?
When I first arrived at Foothill for the orientation program I was pleasantly surprised to see the diversity of international students who attended. The faculty members who were at the orientation were extremely friendly and helpful. They really helped me to adjust to the new environment. During orientation I met other students who are now my best friends.

How do you feel that your experience in the United States will help you later in life?
I love studying in the United States. I think I have developed into a stronger and more independent person and, of course, Foothill has been the source of great relationships.
